My career began as an apprentice in sheet metal fabrication. After becoming fully skilled, I managed the company for three years before moving into the corporate world, manufacturing fibreglass products. This role gave me valuable insight into how large organisations operate and make strategic decisions. From there, I progressed through several SMEs, eventually becoming General Manager at one of the UK’s largest privately owned engineering firms. Within two months, I turned a loss-making division into profit, which led to my secondment as Operations Director for the company’s largest and newly acquired division. After more than seven years in that role, I moved into the HVAC sector as Operations Director for a medium-sized business. Eight months later, I was invited to join a management buyout of the company — which I accepted in February 2020, just three weeks before the first lockdown. Navigating the business through the challenges of COVID-19 was one of the toughest yet most rewarding experiences of my career. Despite the uncertainty, I helped lead the company to strong growth and long-term success.
