Business Finance & Life
Business, Finance & Life (BFL) is a 10-week summer program that transforms ambitious undergraduates into thoughtful, resilient leaders. By operating at the intersection of analytical training and philosophical exploration, BFL cultivates the growth mindset and intellectual curiosity required to navigate high-stakes business environments. Created by Wesleyan Alum and accomplished entrepreneur and investor Tom Matlack, the program shares lessons from a multi-decade career in high finance to help ambitious young students build the skills and questions they need to find a path that fits their values and delivers lifelong fulfillment. The BFL Framework BFL is built on a dual-track system that ensures every student leaves with both the professional experience and self-reflection necessary to move forward in their career journey. The Internship: Students are paired with elite Search Fund operators, driving value through live due diligence, valuation modeling, and proprietary market research. Working directly with CEOs and founders, interns experience firsthand the complexities of identifying and acquiring high-growth businesses. The Curriculum: A weekly blend of technical and interpersonal lessons from Tom Matlack and his wide network of peers. From financial statement analysis and accounting principles to public speaking coaching, students learn to bridge the gap between a "crisp" personal narrative and the underlying mathematics of finance. Our Mission To build a self-sustaining community that serves as a collaborative professional network for Wesleyan University students to utilize for their whole career. We hope that those in this community will leverage their experience to ask thoughtful questions, serve others, and build a career of impact and fulfillment.
