Upsher Management Company (UMC) is a New York city-based single family office stretching across five generations that dates back to the early 1960s following the sale of the family’s healthcare operating business to one of the largest pharmaceutical conglomerates in the world. For over four decades, the family’s primary portfolio position was its equity stake in that pharmaceutical company. In 2003, UMC decided to actively diversify its concentrated holding and initiated what is now a two-decade long process to construct a diversified, high-performance portfolio across most asset classes, including public equity, private equity and venture capital, hedge funds, credit and private lending, and real estate, data centers and farmland. UMC’s portfolio today is heavily tilted towards growth equity (both public and private) and the family has enjoyed excellent returns from its roster of managers, SPVs and direct investments. UMC has significant exposure to a broad cross-section of high-technology (e.g. cloud, SaaS, enterprise software), healthcare (biotech, medical tech, software, data and digital healthcare), crypto and digital assets, and consumer sectors.
