We're the family of the late Andrew T. and Mary Catherine O Connell. Red, as he was known, was born in Ireland and emigrated to New York in 1934 to work as a cartographer in New York's booming publishing business. His insights as a mapmaker led him to a successful investment career in real estate and natural resource extraction. Our private equity strategy is to invest in small and mid-size, founder-led businesses in industries of our core experience. We invest both in control and minority positions, and we're interested particularly in companies where the entrepreneur seeks to retain a significant investment or other leadership as our partner in success. We bring deep expertise and long experience in financial products, commercial real estate, technology, and timberland and resource extraction. We work with our portfolio companies on strategic and long-term issues, but we do not look to be involved in operational management. Typically, our investments range from $5 to $25 million, but we have the flexibility and the wherewithal to explore both larger and smaller opportunities. It's never "just business." Not with us, because we come to work to make life easier for our families and those that work with us, and to make the world we share a kinder, more equitable place.
