Connection Request

Hey Kyle — similar path (IB → PE). been thinking a lot about proprietary origination in search fund investing lately. would be good to connect.

Cold DM (Sales Nav)

Hey Kyle, looks like we share a similar IB → PE path, though I was in London at CS & Greenhill not in Dallas building a search fund platform. origination was always the same story for me — clear thesis, decent relationships, but no proprietary system of record. the people, tools and ideas were never really connected. every deal virtually sourced from scratch, nothing compounding over time. curious if that's still how most funds operate or if I'm behind the times? — Russ

Accept DM

Hey Kyle, looks like we came up through a similar IB → PE path, though I was in London doing growth equity deals at Treis not in Dallas backing searchers and CEOs like you. the pattern I keep seeing with most funds is weirdly consistent — strong thesis, solid network, but no proprietary system of record. the people, tools and ideas are never really connected. every deal virtually sourced from scratch, nothing compounds on itself. curious if that resonates or if you've built something different at Miramar? — Russ

Followup 1

hey Kyle — no worries if the timing's off. most funds I talk to have tried some version of building origination in-house — analyst pulling from Pitchbook or Grata, maybe using ChatGPT to help qualify, dumping it into a spreadsheet. each piece kind of works, but there's no system of record tying it together. the people, tools and ideas are all disconnected, so there's tonnes of wasted energy and everything ends up out of sync. been helping a few funds like Mentmore work through that. curious if you've run into the same thing at Miramar? — Russ

Followup 2 (Breakup)

totally get it if origination infrastructure isn't top of mind right now — most funds have 10 things ahead of it on the priority list. the funds I've seen crack it early just tend to compound deal flow in a way that's hard to replicate later. if it ever moves up the list, I'm easy to find. — Russ

Kyle — Saw your work building Miramar around vertical market software and growth-oriented buyouts — and the podcast you did on search fund trends earlier this year. The thesis around recurring revenue and mission-critical software resonates. Bit of a parallel path here — I did Econ and English at Williams, then spent time at Credit Suisse and Greenhill in TMT M&A before moving into growth equity at a London firm deploying €10-30M tickets into European software companies. Loved the investing side, but the manual grind of sourcing was eating my weeks alive. So I built SearchLoop to fix it. Now we run custom deal sourcing systems for firms with a similar lens to Miramar. Noble Rock Software (18+ portfolio companies) uses it to source founder-led B2B software targets — mapping markets, scoring companies on criteria like switching costs and founder profile → getting owner contacts → running personalized outreach that books meetings directly into their calendar. Wingman Growth Partners does something similar for their $5-40M founder-led software pipeline. The whole thing is built custom to each firm's thesis and plugged into their existing stack — CRM, email, calendar. You can see exactly what's going out and what's coming back at every step. Figured with Miramar's focus on vertical market software and a lean team, you might be in the same spot I was — wanting to spend more time evaluating deals than hunting them down.
