Connection Request

Hey Steven — interesting background. came up through a similar path (IB → growth equity) and been thinking a lot about early-stage origination lately. would be good to connect.

Cold DM (Sales Nav)

Hey Steven, similar capital markets path though I was doing growth equity in London not building a diversified holdco out of Beverly Hills. origination was always the same story for me — clear thesis, decent relationships, but no proprietary system of record tying anything together. every deal virtually sourced from scratch, nothing compounding over time. curious if that's still how most funds operate or if I'm behind the times? — Russ

Hey Steven, looks like we share a similar capital markets background, though I was in London doing growth equity deals at Treis not in Beverly Hills building a holdco around early-stage digital companies like you. the pattern I keep seeing with most funds is weirdly consistent — strong thesis, solid network, but no proprietary system of record. the people, tools and ideas are never really connected. every deal virtually sourced from scratch, nothing compounds on itself. curious if that resonates or if you've built something different at Seismic? — Russ

Followup 1

hey Steven — no worries if the timing's off. most funds I talk to have tried some version of building origination in-house — analyst pulling from Pitchbook or Grata, maybe using ChatGPT to help qualify, dumping it into a spreadsheet. each piece kind of works, but there's no system of record tying it together. the people, tools and ideas are all disconnected so everything ends up out of sync. been helping a few funds like Axiom Equity work through that. curious if you've run into the same thing at Seismic? — Russ

Followup 2 (Breakup)

totally get it if origination infrastructure isn't top of mind right now — most funds have 10 things ahead of it on the priority list. the funds I've seen crack it early just tend to compound deal flow in a way that's hard to replicate later. if it ever moves up the list, I'm easy to find. — Russ

Steven - Saw we both took the liberal arts route — you studied English at Tufts, I did the same at Williams. Not the typical VC path. Started at Credit Suisse doing tech M&A, then growth equity. Now I build deal sourcing systems for early-stage investors. Custom origination engine around your thesis — connects your CRM, LinkedIn, and email, layers on AI screening and outreach that actually lands. Intelligent automation, not another AI agency. Working with Axiom Equity in the UK and a few US funds. Worth a quick call? searchloop.ai linkedin.com/in/russellt23

Email 2 — Follow-up

Steven - One thing I've seen with early-stage investors doing founder outreach — most of it never hits the inbox. Deliverability infrastructure matters more than the copy. We build that into every system. Proper warmup, rotation, monitoring. Happy to walk through how it works. Russ

Email 3 — Follow-up

Steven - Been working with a few funds doing Reg A+ and democratized structures. The sourcing challenge is real when you're backing companies others haven't found yet. Built systems that put meetings on the calendar instead of lists to grind through. Open to a quick call this week? Russ

Email 4 — Breakup

Steven - Know you're busy building out the portfolio — sounds like 2024 is moving fast. If sourcing ever becomes a bottleneck, happy to share what's working for other early-stage investors. Russ
