Connection Request

Hey Paul — looks like we share a similar path (IB → investing). been thinking a lot about proprietary origination in permanent capital lately. would be good to connect.

Cold DM (Sales Nav)

Hey Paul, similar investing background though I was in London at Greenhill and Treis not running endowment capital at Notre Dame. origination was always the same story for me — clear thesis, decent relationships, but no proprietary system of record. the people, tools and ideas were never really connected. every deal virtually sourced from scratch, nothing compounding over time. curious if that's still how most funds operate or if I'm behind the times? — Russ

Accept DM

Hey Paul, looks like we came up through a similar investing path, though I was in London doing growth equity deals at Treis not managing public equities for Notre Dame's endowment and building a permanent capital vehicle like you. the pattern I keep seeing with most funds is weirdly consistent — strong thesis, solid network, but no proprietary system of record. the people, tools and ideas are never really connected. every deal virtually sourced from scratch, nothing compounds on itself. curious if that resonates or if you've built something different at Sator Grove? — Russ

Followup 1

hey Paul — no worries if the timing's off. most funds I talk to have tried some version of building origination in-house — analyst pulling from Pitchbook, maybe using ChatGPT to help qualify, dumping it into a spreadsheet. each piece kind of works, but there's no system of record tying it together. the people, tools and ideas are all disconnected, so nothing compounds. been helping a few funds like Noble Rock work through that. curious if you've run into the same thing at Sator Grove? — Russ

Followup 2 (Breakup)

totally get it if origination infrastructure isn't top of mind right now — most funds have 10 things ahead of it on the priority list. the funds I've seen crack it early just tend to compound deal flow in a way that's hard to replicate later. if it ever moves up the list, I'm easy to find. — Russ

Paul — Your work with Jan-Hendrik Mohr and CHAPTERS Group caught my eye — the permanent home for mission-critical businesses framing is compelling, and it's clear Sator Grove thinks about compounding the same way. I spent three years deploying €10-30M growth equity tickets into European companies. Loved the investing, hated the manual grind of finding deals — so I built SearchLoop to fix it. Noble Rock Software (18+ portfolio companies) uses it to map founder-led B2B software targets → score them on criteria that matter → reach founders directly and book meetings. Backer Group does something similar for services and light manufacturing acquisitions. With Sator Grove's permanent capital approach and $300M under management, there's a version of this that fits well — especially for the types of high-potential businesses you're sourcing across your unlimited hold period. We've already mapped similar verticals from work with existing clients — happy to jump on a quick call and show you what's in there. Russ searchloop.ai linkedin.com/in/russellt23

Fund details: - Description: We exist to help the world’s top entrepreneurs, operators and investors attain the extraordinary. We do this by providing enduring capital and also by obsessing over doing everything else we can to enable them to achieve their full potential. In doing so, we seek to invert the traditional relationship between LPs/GPs and shareholders/companies, which too often lacks animation and runs counterproductive to the spirit of partnership. In every aspect of our design, we are purpose-built to accelerate the pursuit of the investment partnership ideal without institutional constraints. If we succeed, the result will be the curation of some of the highest quality company and fund holdings globally. We exist to serve a small number of individuals and families. In form, we are a private holding company, managing substantially all of the two founders' capital alongside a more modest proportion from some other shareholders. In function, and as our name conveys, we are an intimate grove (not a forest) comprised of like-minded sowers, many of whom are leading investors and company operators. Our shareholders are trusted friends and co-conspirators in work and life. They share in our values and collectively comprise an ecosystem of people in whom we have the utmost admiration. We exist to serve the greater good. The essence of Sator Grove is first a flourishing community that seeks to do good together and second an investment company. Whether through the capital we provide or the people with whom we collaborate, our aim is to ‘sow good seeds’ that grow into win-win outcomes for all of our constituents, including society and future generations. Importantly, we’ve established Sator Grove such that from Day 1 our largest economic beneficiary is the Sator Grove Foundation. In time it will become a powerful charitable force emerging from the success we achieve together as it advances the needs of children globally through poverty alleviation, education and healthcare. - Website: https://www.satorgrove.com - Location: United States - Lead qualification: Research: - Query: =Sator Grove Holdings Paul Buser recent investments fund thesis - Answer: Sator Grove Holdings recently invested $250M in Beacon.
